To save student pennies, why not dry your clothes next to the oven instead of central heating-living the student dream.
Not one to put in your calorie diary, but well worth the hit.
Ingredients:
A good knob of butter (45g)
3 tbsp plain flour
10 (yes 10) cloves of garlic, sliced
6 bay leaves
1 litre semi skimmed milk
600g macaroni
6 tomatoes
150g grated cheddar
100g grated pamesan
thyme
nutmeg
Worcestershire Sauce
A good handful of breadcrumbs
Melt the butter in a big heavy based pan, add the flour and continually stir on a low heat, until a nice paste forms, to form a roux.
Add the sliced garlic and keep stirring until the paste goes nice and sticky.
Slowly add the milk while stirring/whisking all the time, adding the bay leaves too.
Meanwhile cook the pasta as it says on the packet.
When all the milk is added, heat through and add the cooked pasta, chopped fresh tomatoes, the cheeses, nutmeg, Worcestershire Sauce.
If the pan is ovenproof, pop straight into the oven at 220 for 30 minutes. (otherwise transfer into ovenproof dish)
Meanwhile fry the breadcrumbs with some thyme, olive oil, salt and pepper, until golden, taking real car enot to burn them.
To make you feel slightly less guilt ridden about devouring this treat, serve with a crisp salad.
