Worcestershire sauce and Tomato Ketchup are a great way to add depth to a dish.
Worcestershire sauce
Great in meaty sauces like those for a lasagne, cottage pie or bolognese. It adds a real savoury not to our lentil cottage pie.
Add it as you brown the mince (or mushrooms etc) over a high heat to let it evaporate and become concentrated and caramelised.
Ketchup
Both ketchup and Worcestershire sauce make amazing burgers! Adding it while you make the mixture only adds a sweet and savoury flavour but also helps to keep it moist.
Add finely v chopped red onion, thyme leaves and a dollop of ketchup to beef mince and season with salt and pepper. Shape into patties and fry in pan with a small amount of oil.
The trick to cooking a top burger is to leave it to sizzle away for a good few mins (3-4) on a medium heat before you even think about flipping it over. This lets the sugars from the ketchup / worcestershire sauce caramelise beautifully in the pan and let's the burger develop a lovely jammy crust. So good!
